Seamless Dog Importation to Australia with Trusted Experts

Importing dogs into Australia can be a lengthy and challenging process, taking approximately 7 months from the time of Rabies vaccination to the dog’s arrival. Here’s a brief outline:

Rabies Vaccination

  • Must be administered to pets at least 12 weeks old.

    Microchip Identification Declaration

  • The Government Veterinarian in the exporting country must scan your dog’s microchip and complete a declaration form.
  • This form should be sent directly to the specified email address.
  • In some countries, this process requires two veterinarians and must be forwarded to the Official Government Veterinary Agency for endorsement.
  • Once approved, your dog will undergo a 10-day quarantine period, provided all other import permit requirements are met.

    Rabies Titre Test (FAVN Test)

  • Conducted at least 28 days after the rabies vaccination.
  • A result of 0.5 IU/ml or higher is required to comply with Australia’s import regulations.

    RNATT Declaration

  • Bring the FAV Test Laboratory report to the Official Government Veterinarian in the export country to complete the RNATT Declaration.
  • This declaration and the FAVN Test report must be signed, stamped, and dated by the official government veterinarian.

Waiting Period

  • The 180-day waiting period starts once the FAVN Test blood sample arrives at the testing lab.
  • During this time, the application for the Import Permit is submitted.
  • Import Permit approval currently takes about 3-4 months.
  • Once the permit is obtained, we’ll set up a suitable date for your dog to arrive in Australia.

It typically takes 1 day to 5 weeks for Quarantine to confirm the arrival date, which is usually scheduled 3-4 months in advance.

Final Testing and Treatments

  • Final tests and treatments start around 45 days before Quarantine entry.
  • Dogs must be treated for ticks and fleas at least 30 days before export, and for internal parasites with two treatments spaced 14 days apart, the second treatment being within 5 days before export.
  • Blood tests for Leishmania infantum, Leptospira interrogans sv. Canicola, Brucella canis, and others, depending on the dog’s travel history, are required.
  • Dogs from South Korea, Canada, or the USA must be vaccinated for Canine Influenza.
  • Dogs must not be mated 14 days before blood sample collection for Brucella canis testing.

Quarantine Upon Arrival

  • All animals, except those from New Zealand, must undergo a minimum 10-day quarantine at PEQ Mickleham.
  • Quarantine personnel will collect dogs from their flights and transport them to the facility.

Breeds Not Eligible for Importation into Australia

  • The following breeds are not allowed: Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa, American Pit Bull Terrier, Pit Bull Terrier, Perro de Presa Canario.
  • Crossbreeds with non-domestic animals like Czechoslovakian wolfdog, Saarloos wolfdog, Lupo Italiano, or Kunming wolfdog are also prohibited.
